The Housewife

The term "housewife" seems to evoke negativity in the modern day woman. Connotations of oppression and male chauvinism seem to get automatically attached to the word BUT TODAY- I question that modern day stereotype.

Is being a housewife really that backwards? Does wanting to become a homemaker really make a woman weak?

When I think about it, I ponder, what in society has caused our latest generation of women to disdain this potential path in life. It must come from the abuse of power by our male counterparts in the past- not allowing women equal rights thus not allowing women to be totally independant, etc. etc and thus causing a rebellious reaction. But this post is not meant to be a venture into the history of feminism really or to point fingers at the male gender and blame them for all the atrocities in the past. Rather, it is to take a fresh, new look at the word "Housewife".

The truth is, if you have a wonderful, devoted and financially stable husband with a solid income, being a housewife obviously has some benefits. Pros of being a housewife assuming your husband is devoted and financially stable:

1. You now have the time and energy to ensure an ergonomic, loving and warm household.

2. You now have the time and energy to become a top notch chef.

3. You now have the time to focus on analyzing your family income and taking an active role in what and where to invest.

4. You now have more time and energy to focus on conditioning your children to be superpeople!

5. You now have more time and energy to focus on your health and fitness.

6. You now have more time and energy to enhance the health and fitness of your family by planning and coordinating family fitness days!

7. You now have more time and energy to enhance relationships within the family and amongst relatives by planning and coordinating family-relative days!

Ok..... those are the list of pros that I can think of. And yes, I know that "the modern day woman can do all those things at once AND have a career"................ but do you really think that she won't lose her mind, hair and gain tons of wrinkles at the same time from stress and lack of sleep? OR you live in a world where there are 50 hours in a day.

Unfortunately, my days are 24 hours. To stay sane and to stay happy, I'd say that keeping my career means that I'll have to just accept that my cooking may never be excellent, my house won't always be clean and my relatives will probably feel ignored. C'est la vie, give a little, take a little. But really, what's so wrong with creating a loving home for your loved ones, planning a stable financial outlook for your family and ensuring that your family is healthy and happy on a full time basis? Strip away that stereotype and I say that being a housewife has it's awesome benefits and value in society.
