How to find the right blush color for Asian skin tones

If you are reading this post, most likely it is because you don’t usually use blush and just starting out or you are confused by all the color choices and want to find a color that best suites your skin tone. Well, you come to the right place. I will try to break it down for you as simple as possible without the complicated theory of colors.

Do I really need blush?

Some of my friends have asked me” I never use blush before, do I really need it?” The answer is a big capital YES. I would then “force” them to come over to my house, and have them try on different colors. And the response afterwards? They were amazed at the huge difference it made. Blush adds the natural flush to your face to make you look healthy and radiant.  A pale face just looks sick and tired. Also since most Asian’s face is either round or square, a touch of blush at the top of the cheeks will add pop, and create a high cheekbone structure to your face. It will make your face look more 3D, something a lot of Asian struggle with. A little brush really goes a long way. Of course you would need to choose the right color. Otherwise you could look weird or ashy and bring your natural vibrancy down.

How do I choose the right blush color?

Unlike eye shadow or lip sticks, blush is meant to be more natural and subtle. It is meant to imitate the natural blood flush every person gets in their cheeks.

This article here gives some great tips on finding the right color.

-         Look yourself in the mirror after working out or out in the code, the color on your cheeks should be what you want to replicate. It represents the hue of the blood flush in your face.

-         Look at the flush at the palms of your hands. When you go shopping, brush the color onto your palm and see how closely the blush color match with the flush of your palms.

Color and Product Suggestions:

As an Asian women, we all have yellow undertones to our skin, so stick with colors such as warmer pinks, orange and peach. Some Asians have very pale skin, and they can get away with very pink hue. One of my friends looks amazing in pink. But it is very tricky to get it right. If it is too pink, you will end up looking like a clown. I will recommend you a very nice and natural pink shade, read on.

Light to Medium Asian Skin Tones:

There is one blush called Orgasm made by Nars. Nice name huh. :) It is one of my favorite makeup product and my favorite blush. Trust me, I have tried a lot of blush made by many different famouse brands.  It works on almost all skin tones. How could that be? Well, the color is a blend of pink and peach, and with a bit of golden shimmer to give you a natural and healthy glow. Whenever I try this blush on my friends, they love it. We have used this in our makeup event too. To see more details on this product, see the post here.

If you want to go more pink, Benefit dandelion is a great shade. It is a very soft and pretty pink. You will look feminine, radiant and naturally blushed. I can not stop looking at the color, it is just so pretty.

Dark Medium to Dark Asian Skin Tones:

The Nars Organsm can work on these skin tones too, however I have noticed that the color doesn't show as much on some dark skin toned Asian women. So if this is you, to add more pop to your face, use a blush with an orange hue. Anna Sui's face color accents #600 is a great orange shade. This hue also works on lighter skin tonned Asian women. Nars Orgasm is my favorite, Anna Sui is  Jeanette Li's favorite.  If you live in Montreal, you can get Anna Sui at Jean Coutu. I am not sure if all Jean Coutu carry this, we get ours at the one on the corner of St.Catherine and St.Mathieu.
