BB cream : latest craze in Asian skincare

Have you heard of BB cream before? Well, BB stands for Blemish Balm. It is the latest craze in Asian skincare. There are 2 stories about where it originated. First one is that German dermatologists used it on their patients who underwent laser skin surgery to help soothe and regenerate their skin.

Second one is that a Korean actress used it as cover-up and to recover after undergoing a laser skin surgery.  She said it was a miracle cream and because of her testimony, a craze was born. Soon after, Korean celebrities started using BB cream as well.  Big companies saw an opportunity and turned it into a product available to the public.

There are many types of BB cream. Some have whitening properties, anti wrinkle, lighten blemish scars, even out skin tone or sunscreen. But all of them works as moisturizer, makeup base and foundation (it has tinted color). It is also said to be a healing cream. It is suitable for all skin types and gives you a radiant glow.

Many brands carry BB cream in their product range. I got mine from Ebay. It’s called SKIN FOOD Mushroom BB cream SPF 20. I use it to hide my eye circles, acne scars and redness. It has whitening, sun protection and anti-ageing properties. 3 in 1 product ! What more can you ask for ? The best thing is that I don’t have to wear any foundation.

SKIN FOOD have 3 differents BB cream :

1. Gingko Green : doesn’t come with SPF. Contains green tea, gingko leaf, vitamin B and lecithin, great for improving skin texture. Suitable for normal skin.
2. Aloe Sun : comes with SPF 20, moisturizing and soothing. Suitable for acne-prone and sensitive skin.
3. Mushroom Multi-Care : comes with SPF 20 and contains vitamin A good for whitening and preventing wrinkles. Suitable for those with a dull complexion.

I place dots all over my face and then evenly smooth the cream using my fingers. You could as well use a sponge or foundation brush to apply it. 

The only downside is that it’s a shade brighter than my skin colour. It takes a while before it oxidises and finally blends naturally with my skin colour. 

There are only 2 colors to choose from. Unfortunately, they both tend to be too light. #1 is the lightest shade and is great for a brightening effect or those with pale skin. #2 is slightly darker and would work for light to medium skin. I use #2 because I have medium skin and still it is too light.  

Aside from that, I am pretty satisfied. 

Give it a try, I am sure that you will love it. An important thing to note- BB cream is a makeup product and should be considered as such.
