Good For: A perfect base for foundation to creat that flawless and natural makeup look
This is my secret for that natural and flawless makeup look. It has vitamins and antioxidants, and it smoothes skin and really fills in fine lines and pores. My foundation goes on really smooth, and lasts longer after using this primer. It stops foundation from looking cakey or settling into lines. My skin is in decent condition, and I do not have large pores, but with this primer, my face becomes flawless after applying foundation. Everytime I use it, I get compliments on how nice my skin looks. I used it on one of my friend who has large pores and her pores seriously minimized to almost none in front of my eyes. It was amazing. No wonder they won a bunch of awards such as Winner of Best of Sephora Award for Best Primer, one of Marie Claire's "25 Products That Will Change Your Life", & an InStyle Best Beauty Buy. This primer is pricy, but it is definitely worth it. But all you need is one small pump for your whole face. I save it for those occasions where I want my makeup to look perfect. Futhermore,Smashbox carries a wide range of primers, the bolded ones are the ones I tried.
- Photo Finish Primer regular for normal and dry skin. It is oil free.
- Photo Finiah Primer Light for oily, acne proned, and sensitive skin. It is also oil free and contains 60% water. This is what I use since I have sensitve skin.
- Photo Finish Primer Color Correction Series: BLEND is apricot-toned to even out skin tone and counteract discoloration and dark spots. BALANCE is lavender-toned to brighten dull or sallow skin. ADJUST is green-toned to reduce redness.
- Photo Finish Primer SPF 15 and Dermaxyl complex for anti-aging. Dermaxyl complex helps to correct wrinkles.
- Photo Finish Bronzing Primer, this is way too dark for most Asian skins.
For most Asian skins, the regular or primer light should be sufficient. You can get it at Sephora stores, Sephora onlines or Pharmaprix. I go to Pharmaprix, gotta love those optimum points!!!
Now you got the primer covered, you need to find the foundation that best suits your skin type and tone. To read more on this topic, check out here. I talk about how to find the right foundation for Asian skin tones.
I went to Pharmaprix and got some samples from the cosmetics lady to try. It really is great! For those of you who are hesitant cause of the price, go to your local Pharmaprix and ask for samples. It's worth it!
You'lll probably think I'm strange or bizarre, but there are a ton of people who swear by it, but if you want a cheaper alternative to Smashbox's Photo Finish, try Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Powder-Gel Skin Protectant. It's an anti-chafing gel and NOT for yeast infections. This would normally be used for irritating bra straps, on thighs if you exercise rigorously or even on areas of your feet when wearing certain heels that can pinch, but it's amazingly similar to Smashbox, just SLIGHTLY thicker, not as runny.

The ingredients are similar. Youtube or google info on this topic....this stuff is a huge inside secret! Here's one example blog review:

I started using this last week, and it's definitely worth checking out. I can't say I've tried Smashbox on my face but I've swatched these products into the back of my hand, and they feel the same. All the reviews I've read say it holds up better than Smashbox.
You be the judge! Pay $44 or just $11 for 50% more product. Shoppers Drug Mart has an unadvertised sale of $5.49 a tube right now. They don't expire (I emailed the company) so I bought myself 6 boxes at just about half the price of one Smashbox bottle.
Gotta love it!
Thanks cheryl anne, I will give it a try and do a comparison.
