Vince may look familiar to you... you might've caught him on an episode of The Amazing Race (Asia version) or more recently as the cute and cuddly Teddy Waits on Lumina. Vince takes a few minutes to answer some of Orientelle's questions regarding his career, his favorite aspects of the other sex and his future projects:
1. Tell us about your background. What projects did you do in the past and how did you get here (both in Hong Kong and on Lumina)?
I was originally teaching full time in Toronto and then in Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong I started doing theatre and performing stand-up and improv comedy part time. I was in an independent short film and a government public service announcement talking about traffic safety. Last year was a big year because my buddy Sam Wu and I won The Amazing Race Asia 3 while representing Hong Kong. After the Race, I stopped teaching and decided to pursue entertainment full time. I got together with a few other like-minded individuals and created the sketch comedy troupe CB FRESH. I’ve been involved with advertising campaigns for AXN channel, Sony, and local lifestyle brand G.O.D. (Goods of Desire) and Delay No Mall. I also am currently one of the Global Ambassadors for an Ultra-Premium vodka called Shanghai White that is currently only available in Hong Kong. I also host and emcee events including corporate functions and parties, such as The World of Accor Expo and the Hed Kandi pool party at the Venetian Macau.
2. Tell us about the character that you play:
I play Teddy Waits, Lumina’s good friend who is secretly in love with her. He’s a great guy and would do anything for her but she doesn’t really like him that way. Sigh good sweet guys (like me) never get the girl of our dreams haha…
3. Seeing as how Jennifer use to be an investment banker and lawyer, I'd imagine that she gets straight to business when it comes to work- how was it working with your director?
Jen was great to work with. She knew what she wanted and helped us understand our characters. I would jump at the opportunity to work with Jen on another project.
4. From a male perspective, Lumina is beautiful and intelligent- why do you think she has so much difficulty finding her true love in this world?
I think the issue is that Lumina wants what she can’t have. There are many solid available picks around her (like Teddy) but as they say good guys come in last.
5. What advice would you give to Asian women around the world who are both beautiful, intelligent and career oriented... but just can't seem to find Mr. Right? After all... catching Prince Charming in a reflection doesn't work for all of us...
Call me! I’m available.. haha! Seriously though, I think that most people are looking for too much right off the bat. They have an impossible checklist and want the other person to fit their mold. Be honest with yourself and figure out what are the most important qualities that you look for in guy…then give the guys a chance!
6. As good looking Asian Canadian men, what are the key qualities that you look for in the personality and appearance of a potential girlfriend?

Hmm OK, let me pull out my impossible checklist haha… Well I think that one of the most important things is their sense of humour. I love to laugh and the couple that laughs together stays together. Also, I like girls who are active and sporty… like me! As for appearance, it’s hard for me to really describe “my type” because it varies so much… I think that there are many attractive women out there but their bubbly personality is what “locks” it in for me.
7. From a male perspective, what do you think the guys in the audience will appreciate about Lumina?
I think the series is mysterious and intriguing. Fans of sci-fi and fantasy will definitely appreciate it. It’s beautifully shot and from what I’ve seen, every episode leaves me wanting to see more.
8. JuJu was a blast to interview, did you guys have any memorable bloopers?
I had a few semi-make out scenes with Juju, well… I got to put my arm around her ... and she kissed me in another… I wished I messed those scenes up more so that we could have more takes….
9. What's next for you ?
I’m currently working on writing the script and doing voice recording for my sketch comedy troupe’s animated series. Also. I’ve been selected by Esprit to be in one of their new faces for their advertising campaign here in Hong Kong. I’ll continue to emcee and host events and go for auditions while being the ambassador for Shanghai White vodka.
Teddy is cuddly. ;)
yay! a man that goes for personality!
